概要

本文書は、HTML及びXHTMLの仕様書におけるmeta data profilesである。

This specification does not define a set of legal meta data properties. The meaning of a property and the set of legal values for that property should be defined in a reference lexicon called a profile.

Authors may wish to define additional link types not described in this specification. If they do so, they should use a profile to cite the conventions used to define the link types.

HTML及びXHTMLにて、head要素のprofile属性値のURIを本文書に結び付けることで、本文書にて追加定義する "Meta data（メタデータ）", "Link types（リンク形式）" の幾つかのプロパティの内容を明確にし、その使用を可能にする。

注釈

  • XHTML 2.0（草案）では、profile属性はhead要素の属性では無く、 html要素の属性link要素のrel属性の値がprofileと指定された当該要素のresource属性の属性値にプロファイルのURIを指定する様 に変更されています。

Meta data

HTML及びXHTMLにおいて、head要素のprofile属性の値に本文書を参照することで、次に定義する各プロパティを "Meta data" として、その使用を提供する。

Each META element specifies a property/value pair. The name attribute identifies the property and the content attribute specifies the property's value.

The lang attribute can be used with META to specify the language for the value of the content attribute. This enables speech synthesizers to apply language dependent pronunciation rules.

description
文書の概要・要約を指す。
keywords
文書のキーワードを指す。例えば、複数のキーワードを指定する場合は、,（コンマ）区切り形式で列挙される。
robots
当該文書の索引付けと解析の可否を指す。content属性値は、ALL、NONE、INDEX、NOINDEX、FOLLOW、NOFOLLOW である。（HTML Author's Guide to the Robots META tag.）
schema.prefix
指定する接頭辞（prefix）に結び付けられている名前空間を示し、拡張名前空間をcontent属性値にURIで指定する。この指定は、あらゆる要素のclass属性やrel属性などの属性値の接頭辞付きの値（prefix.property 或いは prefix.property.subproperty）に対する名前空間URIになる。尚、指定方法は、link要素での宣言の場合と同等である。

Link types

HTML及びXHTMLにおいて、head要素のprofile属性の値に本文書を参照することで、次に追加定義する各プロパティを "Link types" (HTMLのDTDで定義される %LinkTypes;。XHTML では %LinkTypes.datatype;) として、その使用を提供する。

These link types are case-insensitive, i.e., "Alternate" has the same meaning as "alternate".

meta
当該文書の外部メタ情報文書を指す。href属性にメタ情報を含む文書（RDF等）を指定することで、文書にメタ情報を関連付けします。
made
当該文書の著者への接触方法を指す。href属性にメールアドレス、或は、著者の”ホーム”ページのURIを指定します。例えば、当該文書と指定URIとの関係は、rel属性とrev属性の用法により、当該文書と著作者との関係も明確にできる。
shortcut icon
icon
サイトアイコンを指す。href属性にサイト固有のアイコン（デフォルト名: favicon.ico）のURIを指定することでブラウザに指定したアイコンを表示します。
  • MsIEでは、お気に入りとクイックリンクの横に指定したアイコンを表示します。（Web サイト制作者のための Tips）
  • Geckoブラウザ（MozillaやNetscapeなど）では、場所ツールバーの左側とブックマークリスト内に指定したアイコンを表示します（Preferences → Show Web Site Icons 有効時のみ）。
up
当該文書の親文書を指す。rel属性とrev属性の用法により、文書の親子関係も明確にできる。
first
一連（続き物）の文書群の、最初の文書を指す。
last
一連の文書群の、最後の文書を指す。
translation
文書の別言語への翻訳サービスを指す。href属性に翻訳サービスを提供しているURIを指定します。他言語の代替文書ではありません。例えば、複数言語への翻訳サービスを提供する場合には、リソースの基本言語をhreflang属性に指定したり、そのラベルとしてtitle属性を使用し得る。
validator
妥当性検証を指す。検証は、構造文書のマークアップやスタイルシート等が「その規格に対して妥当」なものであるかの証明に使用される。例えば、複数の検証サービスを併用して利用している場合には、そのラベルとしてtitle属性を使用し得る。
schema.prefix

注釈

HTMLでは、空要素を閉じなくて良い。即ち、XHTMLの<meta />という記述は、HTMLでは<meta>と記述する。
